We're now stocking LMT enhanced bolts. After careful review we like these bolts a lot. The design and execution are the best on the market. The price is high, but every rifle running an enhanced LMT bolt is a superior weapon.

Some of our customers have sent in pics of their builds. We thought we'd share a few. First up, a 4-shot 100-yard group measuring 0.5 MOA:



This is a left-handed build that turned out well. The barrel extension is standard, not left, the upper does not have the M4 cuts, but apparently everything works very well:

Here's a beauty with a Mega billet side charging upper and Young Mfg side charging match carrier. The PRI carbon fiber forearms are some of our favorites. The Mega billet upper receiver is outstanding:




Last but not least for this post is a rifle based on receivers from Spike's Tactical. A Troy TRX Extreme 13" forearm completes the build with the 18" Bison SPR 6.8 SPC barrel:

At last!

All of our barrels are now in stock. Just got the fluted 20" barrels with dedicated rifle length gas. They are some sharp looking barrels. Available with 5/8-24 muzzle threads, or with an 11 degree target crown.

All Barrels In Stock Now!

Finally we are fully stocked on barrels. The only thing we're waiting on are the new 20" barrels with rifle length gas systems and fluting under the hand guards. Everything else is in stock. This includes bare stainless, bead blasted, and flat black Gun Kote finishes.

Please allow 3 weeks additional for your order if you want Flat Dark Earth, Olive Drab Green, Forest Green, or Foliage Green Gun Kote.

Most orders are shipping in one to two weeks from order date at the moment, for orders with in-stock parts.

New Server Up and Running!

Bison Armory just completed our move to a new web server. We'd been having problems with bounced emails and website reliability. Our new dedicated VPS should take care of these issues.

Barrels are on their way!

Just talked to E.R. Shaw and the 16" barrels are done and on their way to us. The new 20" barrels will be completed by the end of the week. Almost there!

Barrel Status April 2, 2010

We are running low on 16" recon barrels with mid-length gas systems, but we should have new ones in before the month is out. 20" barrels are out of stock, but should have more in a week or two. Plenty of 18" recon and SPR barrels are in stock.

We do have a limited supply of barrels with unthreaded muzzles and 11 degree target crowns. Please email or call to order these.

The Blog is Back!

We're back to using the blog to post news and information! Here's what's new:

We have a new website! Hope you are enjoying the new look and functionality. We will be updating content over the next few weeks.

16" and 18" recon, and 18" spr barrels are in stock in bare stainless. We have gunkote and beadblast barrels coming in this week.

20" barrels are out of stock. New barrels should be here in 4 to six weeks. Our new rifle-length gas system 20" barrels will feature fluting under the handguards, and the shoulder for the gas block will be out at the rifle position.

Bison Armory is Almost There!

We're just about to go live. The Bison Armory website is ready to go, and we're just waiting for our barrels to arrive. We will post news here regarding barrels and components as soon as we know anything so that you will be updated. Once you can see the web store, that means we're open for business, and you can buy right over the internet.

Target Crown Muzzles - It's Official

Talked with Shaw again today, and it looks like the unthreaded target-crown muzzles are a go. These will be very limited in number, but they will be available. I'm hoping for delivery of the barrels by early March. Pricing as follows:

18" 5/8-24 muzzle thread: $175
20" 5/8-24 muzzle thread: $185

18" target crown: $185
20" target crown: $195

Once I get the barrels, I need to put three uppers together so that I can test them. After they pass my initial testing they will be available for purchase.

Also, I'm looking into having M&R Arms Diamond Kote some of the barrels. I'll wait and see how I like the first couple samples that I get back from them.

Still Waiting...

No news yet from E.R. Shaw on the barrels. I'm hoping to hear from them next week. Best case scenario has them starting the barrels in a week or so. Here's hoping.

Barrels are in the Pipe!

I just talked to E.R. Shaw and they have cut the material for the barrels! They should start work on them, tentatively, in the second week of February. Shaw has indicated that they should be able to make a sub-batch of the barrels with unthreaded, target crowned muzzles for those who are interested. These will be limited in quantity, so contact us ASAP if you are interested in one.

Young Manufacturing

I got a Young Manufacturing chrome bolt carrier in the mail today and the thing is a work of art. I am very keen to take it to the range in the near future. Chrome bolts do not appear to be available at this time, so standard bolts will have to do. I am looking forward to getting my AR to the range with this bolt carrier to see how it performs. If the bolt carrier works out with my Micro Best bolts, then I'll definitely recommend it to my customers.

I've also received a Stag bolt and carrier. Nothing too fancy about it. The bolt does not appear to be shot-peened like my Micro Best bolt. Given that, and that Stag is still months away from having any in stock, and I think I'll go with the Micro Best bolts as standard equipment for Bison Armory.

In addition to those goodies, I got some Barnes TSX bullets in 85 grain in order to test rifle function with fast powders and light bullets. I have been informed of issues with the Ko-Tonics/Cardinal Armory 20" barrels having problems with these loads with the rifle-length gas tube. We will see how the intermediate length gas system works with these loads. Conjecture I've heard indicates that the shorter gas tube length should help with cycling. I don't have these barrels yet, but I'm working up some initial test loads to try.

Hopefully I'll get to the range in the next couple weeks and a range report will follow.

KT-68

Here's some photos of my new KT-68 based AR. Great rifle, shoots MOA easily. The rifle is built on a Mega lower with RRA parts, and a YHM upper with mostly YHM accessories. The scope is a cheap Simmons that I pulled off of my Savage hunting rifle package. I wonder how it'd shoot if I had a match trigger and quality optics...


The muzzle device is my own home made thing. It has no baffles and is not a sound suppressor. At some point in the future, however, we may get our SOT so that we can start selling YHM suppressors.

Things are looking good, and the upper on this rifle is an example of what you'll be able to get from us, in addition to barrels and parts. For now, send us an email at bisonarmory@gmail.com listing the individual parts you want from YHM or Midway USA and whether or not you want us to assemble the parts or do it yourself, and we'll put a quote together for you.

Range Trip!

Just got back from the range. I finally got all the parts for my new AR build that included a new (and one of the last) 18" barrels from Tim at Cardinal Armory. This range trip let me try out the YHM upper receiver, Noveske gas tube, and Micro Best 6.8 bolt. Everything worked well without a hitch. I was easily shooting sub-moa right from the beginning. My wife has my camera on a trip so I don't have any pics, but you guys all know what bullet holes in paper look like :)

For the record, the rifle is built with a YHM rifle length forearm, YHM low-profile gas block, YHM scope riser, A2 butstock from Model 1, RRA (I think) lower parts kit from RB Precision, and a super-cheap Simmons 3-9x40 that I pulled off of my Savage rifle package.

I was also shooting Sierra 110gn pro hunters over 28gn of H322. I found that to be a very good load in my old 6-groove barrel as well.

So I am stoked! Everything is working out well. Now I just have to sit and wait for the barrels.

Talked To ER Shaw Today

Just got off the phone with ER Shaw today and things are looking good. They have my order and they're going to proceed with it after SHOT. So if everything goes well they'll start in February and I'll get my hands on the barrels in March. Excellent!

Bison Armory Will Stock YHM Components!

I just got off the phone with the guys at YHM and we're good to go on YHM parts. We will standardize on YHM for our custom upper builds. I'm working on finding a supplier for 6.8 SPC bolts, and I'll post as soon as we finalize anything.

So there you have it, we will build custom uppers for our customers who want them. If you would like to use parts other than YHM, let us know which manufacturer and which parts and we'll see what we can do. If you like the great stuff made by YHM, then you are good to go!

The Barrels Have Been Ordered

I just sent in my order to ER Shaw this morning for both the 18" and the 20" barrels. The 18" barrel will feature the same SPR profile found on the Cardinal Armory barrels, while the 20" will have an SPR profile that accommodates a gas port at either the intermediate or the rifle positions. Price is tentatively set at $175 per barrel, provided that our cost does not go up due to material cost inflation between now and when Shaw starts to make the barrels.
